Alumni Spotlight- Chaliava Fowewe
“Mercer’s MPH and DrPH program prepared me to think critically about how systems, policies, and social determinants intersect to impact mental health outcomes. The program’s emphasis on evidence-based practice, leadership, and equity equipped me with the tools to lead in both clinical and public health spaces. It also taught me how to translate data and research into practical interventions that improve people’s lives.
What sets Mercer apart is its commitment to developing servant-leaders — professionals who lead not just with knowledge, but with heart. The mentorship, faith-based foundation, and strong emphasis on ethical practice helped me grow both personally and professionally. Mercer taught me that leadership isn’t about position; it’s about purpose. Every time I walk into an agency or organization or mentor a future public health professional or social worker, I carry Mercer’s values with me.”
