How to Apply
All applicants seeking admission to the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program or the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Program must submit an application through SOPHAS. The application timeline for the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program is August through July for a Fall entry term. The application timeline for the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Program is March through October for a Spring entry term.
Application requirements for the MPH Program include:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States; official transcripts from all institutions attended must be submitted directly to SOPHAS.
- Required overall GPA of 2.85 or higher for regular admission. Occasionally students may be admitted conditionally with a GPA of less than 2.85. Students with a GPA below a 2.5 will not be considered for admission.
- Completion of prerequisites prior to matriculation. Only grades of “C” or better are acceptable for prerequisite coursework. The prerequisite courses include:
- a college-level math course, and
- biology.
- GRE scores optional, not required.
- Required community service hours: A minimum of 30 hours as an active participant in a service or community project.
- Personal statement
- Three (3) letters of reference must be submitted to SOPHAS; one letter must be from a college professor who taught the applicant in class.

Application requirements for the DrPH Program include:
- Applicants should identify only one program concentration when applying for the DrPH Program in SOPHAS: Social Epidemiology or Diverse Populations & Health Equity.
- Applicants must have one of the following from a CEPH-accredited school/program: Master of Public Health degree, an equivalent CEPH-accredited degree with similar core MPH coursework, or a CEPH-accredited terminal degree (doctorate). Official transcripts from all institutions attended must be submitted directly to SOPHAS.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher in prior graduate work is required. Students with a graduate GPA less than 3.0 are not considered for admission.

- Three (3) letters of reference must be submitted to SOPHAS; one letter must be from a current or previous college professor.
- GRE scores optional, not required.
- Applicants are required to have one year minimum of public health or public health-related practical experience. Practical experience may include internships and fellowships post-master’s level degree, or evidence of scholarly/practical public health involvement during the master’s study if applying upon graduation from a graduate program.
- Qualified/competitive applicants will be invited to participate in a personal interview that will include a writing sample.
